Workshops

In a dedicated workshop space at our farmhouse in north Cumbria, we offer a range of opportunities for learning to use traditional hand tools to work green wood. We can also help you to begin your journey towards being able to make your own edge tools with our own forge and grinding facilities.

Depending on the nature of the learning most open workshops will cater for between 4 and 8 participants. We ask that for our open workshops learners should be aged 18 and over, or over 16 if accompanied by an adult paying for their own place on the workshop.

We are happy to offer bespoke closed workshops, either one-to-one or for small groups, for which we are also happy to consider groups of children with adults. We are DBS checked at an enhanced level for working with children.

We are completely flexible in being able to provide one-to-one or one-to-two tuition in many aspects of greenwood craft at a time that suits you best. These are bespoke workshops designed specifically for you to develop a particular area of the craft so that you may continue your own learning independently.

Workshop costs

Open workshops are all individually priced and the cost will vary depending upon the project being worked on.

All workshops include the use of tools and all materials that will be required unless otherwise specified. Where a charge is made for materials this will be clearly identified in the workshop description – this is normally for larger projects, chair seating materials or tool steel for forging.

Bespoke tuition costs

One-to-one is charged at £140 per day, £250 for 2 days and £320 for 3 days.

One-to-two is charged at £250 per day, £380 for 2 days and £550 for 3 days.

Small groups larger than 2 people are charged at £90 per person.

Travelling workshops

It is often possible to bring some of our workshops or bespoke opportunities to your own venue. These are normally charged at a flat daily rate but will also include a charge for out of pocket expenses such as mileage and accommodation if required – these will be advised prior to confirming a booking. Please do get in touch if this interests you.

Evening Classes

We plan to offer three six week long blocks of evening classes a year, one in the spring, one in the summer and one in the autumn. These provide great opportunities for learning some new skills for those people that may struggle to attend a whole day or weekend workshop.

These will run on Tuesdays on two separate sessions.

Session 1 will run from 3pm until 5pm.

Session 2 will run from 7pm until 9pm.

Evening classes will be charged at £15 per two-hour session, or £85 if you book the block of 6 sessions and pay in advance.
